I was a member of Travis Cottrell‘s worship team for Beth Moore‘s Living Proof Live events for 5 years. It was one of the greatest seasons of my life. To this day I see the ripple effects of all that I learned from Travis and Beth, and the amazing team I traveled with. Several of them are still my very best friends.

One of the greatest lessons I learned from Beth was the power of God’s Word to transform lives. She would often speak of scripture as a sword that cuts through to the heart with precision. She would share how God used meditating, memorizing, and praying His word to usher her out of a season of bondage, and into the freedom that she now walks in. I wanted that, too! Over 15 years later, I still do! I have had seasons of walking in that freedom, only to fall back into seasons of bondage once again. Now I understand that whatever you do to obtain freedom, is what you have to continue to do to live in freedom.

That is why I am so excited to be a part of Living Proof Ministries’ Siesta Scripture Memory Team this year! Click here to read about how to be a part of this team. Basically, we will memorize a new scripture every 2 weeks. By the end of 2017 we’ll have 24 verses committed to memory! We’ll celebrate this together in January 2018 in Houston! If there is one thing I know from experience, it’s that planting God’s Word in your heart produces a beautiful harvest that is worth memorializing!

I’ve been wandering in the desert the last few years, and I know that God is calling me to walk into the Promised Land. As a single, introverted, woman in a very public career, my natural default is to isolate. God has shown me that a large part of what led to my descent back into a pit of despair, was that I shut out the world. I ignored calls, texts, knocks on my door, and church attendance. I never read my Bible, tuned out nudges from the Holy Spirit, and essentially turned a blind eye to any form of Light. My pit was dark, lonely, and because I was familiar with it, comfortable.

Since God has lifted me out of that pit, He has shown me that it was a false, momentary sense of comfort I was experiencing. He opened my eyes to the reality of where I was, and how I got there. There are a few things I know I need to be intentional about in 2017; walking in community is one of those things. So I asked Him to show me verses that highlight the importance of the Body of Christ. That’s how I chose the first two verses I’ll memorize in January. Hebrews 10:24-25 speaks to the importance of walking hand in hand with other Jesus followers. The SSMT is a beautiful way of doing just that. I hope that some of you will join me! If so, don’t forget to post your comment on Beth’s blog. I’d love to hear your first memory verse and why you chose it in the comment section below!
