Siesta Scripture Memory Team

//Siesta Scripture Memory Team

I was a member of Travis Cottrell‘s worship team for Beth Moore‘s Living Proof Live events for 5 years. It was one of the greatest seasons of my life. To this day I see the ripple effects of all that I learned from Travis and Beth, and the amazing team I traveled with. Several of them are still my very best friends.

One of the greatest lessons I learned from Beth was the power of God’s Word to transform lives. She would often speak of scripture as a sword that cuts through to the heart with precision. She would share how God used meditating, memorizing, and praying His word to usher her out of a season of bondage, and into the freedom that she now walks in. I wanted that, too! Over 15 years later, I still do! I have had seasons of walking in that freedom, only to fall back into seasons of bondage once again. Now I understand that whatever you do to obtain freedom, is what you have to continue to do to live in freedom.

That is why I am so excited to be a part of Living Proof Ministries’ Siesta Scripture Memory Team this year! Click here to read about how to be a part of this team. Basically, we will memorize a new scripture every 2 weeks. By the end of 2017 we’ll have 24 verses committed to memory! We’ll celebrate this together in January 2018 in Houston! If there is one thing I know from experience, it’s that planting God’s Word in your heart produces a beautiful harvest that is worth memorializing!

I’ve been wandering in the desert the last few years, and I know that God is calling me to walk into the Promised Land. As a single, introverted, woman in a very public career, my natural default is to isolate. God has shown me that a large part of what led to my descent back into a pit of despair, was that I shut out the world. I ignored calls, texts, knocks on my door, and church attendance. I never read my Bible, tuned out nudges from the Holy Spirit, and essentially turned a blind eye to any form of Light. My pit was dark, lonely, and because I was familiar with it, comfortable.

Since God has lifted me out of that pit, He has shown me that it was a false, momentary sense of comfort I was experiencing. He opened my eyes to the reality of where I was, and how I got there. There are a few things I know I need to be intentional about in 2017; walking in community is one of those things. So I asked Him to show me verses that highlight the importance of the Body of Christ. That’s how I chose the first two verses I’ll memorize in January. Hebrews 10:24-25 speaks to the importance of walking hand in hand with other Jesus followers. The SSMT is a beautiful way of doing just that. I hope that some of you will join me! If so, don’t forget to post your comment on Beth’s blog. I’d love to hear your first memory verse and why you chose it in the comment section below!

My heart identifies! 2017 will be a new change of heart year for me too because of God grace and mercy! Thank you for being His instrument of encouragement to so many.

Phil 4:13…. I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me. This verse has been on my heart for a couple weeks now and I wrote it in my journal as well. You know how God will confirm things? Well He has in multiple ways. So, I’m starting out with this verse.

Great choice! And a popular one based on the comment section! 😉

Philippians 4:13 is my memory verse because it is about strength and we can do anything through the strength of Jesus Christ.

Suzanne (above) and Amy (below) are doing the same!

I’ve gone back n forth from little bits of freedom to defeat, for years. Now, I have health issues.
So tired of back n forth. Personally, I think what happens is when I make a renewed commitment the enemy attacks and once again I get distracted in the latest crisis/drama, and that covers a lot.
The Lord dropped a verse in my spirit to help me off the sad-go-round (nothing merry about it).
The verses are from Proverbs 4:21,22 Do not let His words out of my sight for they are life and healing to my whole body. Much love to you Mandisa!

Amen! Love those verses! I’m like you, Candace. I’ve battled the same issues over and over. I am gonna have to borrow that “sad-go-round”! Ha! Brilliant! A passage that has resonated with me is Deuteronomy 2:2-3. It says, “Then GOD said, ‘You’ve been going around in circles in these hills long enough; go north.'” (MSG‬‬) It reminds me that God does not want me battling with the same issues over and over. Look to Him and walk in freedom.

Mandisa as I responded to your post on Twitter yesterday – I’m so happy to know we will be hearing your new songs but more than that excited and blessed that you have reached out to our Father for strength! Your portion has been missed dearly. My memorization verse is Phil 4:13- I CAN do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me. It’s a new year and I too need to get back on track with reading the Word and following His plans not mine.

Popular scripture! Deborah and Amy (below) are doing it too! Can’t go wrong!

The scripture that I will memorize will be:
Psalms 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

    • Mandisa January 2, 2017 at 9:43 am - Reply

Yes! Psalm 119 is full of awesome nuggets like that! One day I’ll tackle that whole Psalm. It may take several years, but one day! For now, the verse you chose and verse 105 are my favorites. Verse 105 says, “Your word is a lamp to feet and a light to my path.” So good!

These are my first three. I chose them because it’s babes year and I know I need to focus on trusting His plans even when I can’t see where it leads. Especially then.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11-13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

*its a new year. Silly autocorrect!!

      • Mandisa January 2, 2017 at 9:39 am - Reply

Such a great passage! I’m glad you clarified what autocorrect did, Linda! I was like, “who’s Babe?” LOL!

        • Beth A Pershinske January 3, 2017 at 8:07 pm - Reply

Haha! I kept rereading it too: ” ‘Babes?’ What does it mean?? ”
At least autocorrect can give us a good laugh every now and then. 😀

Thank you for sharing the verse Linda.

Mandissa, your honesty is refreshing. We need to keep our eyes on Him that’s for sure. I also need to dive into the Bible daily. No more excuses for me. ♡

          My verse is Hebrews 4:16
          *Week 1: Hebrews 4:16
“Let us then approach Godʼs throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

          Lord, we need you. ♡♡

          • Beth January 3, 2017 at 8:09 pm

I spelled your name wrong. I mean, autocorrect did. 😉

            Sorry about that.

I should know better than to trust Siri! She gets me every time! 🙂

I’m starting with John16:33 “I’ve taught you this so that by trusting me you will be unshakable and assured deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties but take heart! I’ve conquered the world. “. This translation is from The Message.
I just wanted to remind myself that Jesus told me I’d have troubles but I don’t have to shaken by those troubles. I’m also doing The Forgotten Way meditations by Ted Dekker. Great reminder that help me stay focused.

God bless in this new year

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
    Romans 12:1‭-‬2 NLT

You are an inspiration for me. Your transparency is so helpful. I watched you on American Idol. You were my favorite artist that year. I have been praying for you ever since to have courage to make a stand for Christ in the music industry. You did and have never wavered from that platform.

It is because of your continued perseverance through set backs that you are so inspiring. With that in mind, and due to my on going battle with my own demos, I am choosing Romans 12:1-2 as my first verse. It is important to start by renewing my mind. Scripture is the best replacement for “stinking thinking”. I’ll be praying for you as you start this journey.

“This is what the Lord says – He who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: ‘Do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.'”

Isaiah 44:2-3 (next 4-5 next 2 weeks). NIV

An encouragement to me to not be discouraged about my children. The Lord is at work in them!

SSMT 2017: Verse 1 (Yes, I’m a bit late to the game…) Dear Friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us. 1John 4:11-12. I’ve been in an isolated place, and it’s on me to get out of this by loving others.

thank you Mandisa for all you do to encourage us!
    Hebrews 12:1b and 2a
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith.

Hi Mandisa, I love your voice and your music, I can see that the holy spirit has anointed you you to sing unto him. I have written a few songs that I believe you would do two of these songs justice. I don’t know the complexity of doing new material, but if you might be interested in listening to a couple of my songs I would be blessed, and so would the listeners. Please respond whether good news or bad. Sincerely Ronnie Johnson.

Mandisa, your beauty shined through tonight in your testimony at the Hits Deep Concert. Always remember PHilippians 2:16 “Hold firmly to the Word of Life.” I”m praying my favorite verse for you “I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in Him. Then your hope will overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13.
